The i3Secure team proudly joined distinguished guests to commemorate the 85th anniversary of the Battle of Britain in exceptional company this year. As sponsor of the inaugural Gala Dinner, i3Secure helped the RAF Benevolent Fund host a memorable fundraising event at RAF Northolt on 1 October 2025, honouring the bravery and sacrifice of those who defended our skies.
It was an inspiring and enjoyable evening of fine dining, live entertainment and celebration; one that not only remembered the past but also reinforced our shared commitment to the welfare of today’s RAF Family.
An Evening of Ceremony and Celebration
The evening began with a lively drinks reception, where guests enjoyed live entertainment before watching an extraordinary Continuity Drill Display by The King’s Colour Squadron, accompanied by the Central Band of the RAF. The performance captured the precision, pride, and professionalism that have defined the RAF for over a century.

As daylight faded, the Sunset Ceremony offered a moment of solemn reflection. The Central Band’s music filled the air as guests stood in silence, honouring the courage of those who fought during one of the most decisive air battles in history.

Words of Leadership and Legacy
Following the ceremony, Air Marshal Paul Lloyd, Deputy Chief of the Air Staff, addressed the audience with a message that blended remembrance and renewal.
As the senior officer responsible for delivering the RAF’s strategy through its people, training, and infrastructure, Air Marshal Lloyd reflected on how the qualities that defined “The Few” — courage, ingenuity and unity — continue to underpin the modern RAF.
His words reminded attendees that the Service’s strength lies not only in its aircraft and technology but in the professionalism and spirit of its people.

Guests then enjoyed an elegant dinner, surrounded by remarkable company and meaningful conversation.

Remembering the Unsung
A poignant moment came when i3Secure Consultant Lee Close read a vignette recounting the experiences of a member of the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force (WAAF) who served at the radar station in Rye, attacked during the Battle of Britain.
The account transported listeners to August 1940, when the roar of approaching bombers shook the very walls of Britain’s coastal defences. Despite the chaos — shattered glass, overturned furniture, and the thud of bombs nearby — the young women of the radar hut continued calmly to relay critical information to Fighter Command. Within just twenty minutes of the attack, the damaged station was back on the air.

Lee’s reading captured the quiet heroism of those whose contributions often went unseen: the ground crews, radar operators, and thousands of men and women who formed the backbone of Britain’s air defence network.
The vignette served as a powerful reminder that while the fighter pilots won glory in the skies, their success rested on the dedication of countless others on the ground: engineers, communications staff, factory workers, and civilians who ensured the RAF never ran out of aircraft, information, or resolve.
The story’s closing sentiment — that the “Whole Force” of the RAF is greater than the sum of its parts — resonated deeply with the audience, bridging the courage of the 1940s with the teamwork and innovation that define the RAF today.
Keynote Reflections on the RAF Today
The keynote address was delivered by Air Marshal Sir Stuart Atha, now Defence Director at BAE Systems, whose distinguished RAF career spanned more than three decades.
Drawing on his experience as a former Deputy Commander Operations, Sir Stuart reflected on how the legacy of the Battle of Britain continues to shape modern air and space power.
He spoke of the RAF’s role in defending the UK and supporting global security, and the importance of strong partnerships between the Armed Forces, industry, and the communities that support them.
His speech reinforced a central theme of the evening: remembrance is not only about looking back, but about recognising the enduring duty to those who serve today and those who will serve tomorrow.

The formalities concluded with a Loyal Toast, followed by drinks and conversation.
A silent auction and raffle added a touch of friendly competition to the event, helping to raise funds for the RAF Benevolent Fund: a charity that continues to play a vital role in supporting serving and former RAF personnel and their families. The generosity of guests reflected the shared pride and purpose that define the RAF community.

A Shared Commitment
This Gala Dinner was more than a commemoration; it was a celebration of legacy, service, and unity. The courage of “The Few” may forever symbolise the Battle of Britain, but the evening’s tributes reminded all present that victory was built on the dedication of many.
With leaders such as Air Marshal Paul Lloyd guiding the RAF’s modern mission and Sir Stuart Atha advancing innovation through industry, the spirit of 1940 continues to inspire today’s air and space professionals.
For i3Secure, supporting this event was a true honour. It was an opportunity to stand with those who protect our skies, to celebrate the vital work of the RAF Benevolent Fund, and to contribute to a cause that embodies courage, integrity, and service.
It was, in every sense, a memorable evening of fine dining, live entertainment and celebration; a fitting tribute to 85 years of bravery and the enduring strength of the RAF Family.
