i3Secure Team Day – in Person!

Motivation comes from working on things we care about. It also comes from working with people we care about.
History was created on Thursday 19 Aug 2021. For the first time in its short life, the i3 team congregated (mostly) together in a single place at the same time! Some notable exceptions however:
Anthony (Pestilence)
Toby (Pestilence)
Nathan (AWOL)

Having grown very much used to MS Teams personas; the opportunity to get to know the rest of the crew was a genuinely exciting prospect. All arrived well in advance of the 1200 start time and mingled in the admittedly very smartly equipped room provided at the Village Hotel in Nottingham. After universally failing to be quiet for Mike’s audit, much to his disgruntlement, the day commenced with an introduction prepared by Jay. This outlined the scope of this event and underlined the importance of team cohesion and understanding who your teammates are on every conceivable level… and didn’t we learn so much?

The i3 team has been busy, very busy! However, until this event we have never set out the vision, a goal, strategised for our next steps and stated that out loud. This event allowed this to happen. Adam and Alistair set out a vision for the company moving forward and ambitious growth plans. Numbers anticipated to jump in every sense; profit, income, personnel numbers, customer base etcetera. The path to get there was similarly outlined, a real team effort is needed. For many this will include operating outside of their “box”; without customers, we have no delivery mandate.

Some questionable poses followed for photograph from the professional hired to try and make us all look more presentable. In my particular case, that failed miserably. Not any fault of the photographer though, I am just as photogenic as a stool sample. The rest of the i3 team looked fantastic though!

After photographs, lunch and the conceptual plan for i3’s future was outlined. Now that we are founded, the strategy and long term goals were outlined. It is super important to realise the part that we all must play in getting to these markers; now we know where we would like to be, it is up to us to make that happen!

Our day concluded with a demonstration of drone capabilities with BB Drones. A really interesting part of the day, intended for entertainment but which turned in to something quite informative. For those who recently left service, it was also a great time to catch up with the BB team who are shortly to commence the transition into civilian life.

On conclusion of the formalities an excellent team building event was held in the hotel bar. Professional personas were dropped and the real face of the team came out. In many respects this was equally as important, you can really learn a lot about somebody in a social situation and colleagues turned in to friends following a highly successful evening.

Here’s to the next i3 event and to the next chapter in the i3 evolution!
